How marking works
Every 5 keystrokes count as one word. A full mistake (omitted, substituted, added or misspelt word) costs 50 strokes; a half mistake (spacing, punctuation, capitalisation) costs 25.
Worked example at this exam's level: you type 1,750 strokes in 10 minutes, exactly 35 WPM gross. With 3 full and 2 half mistakes the penalty is 50 × 4.0 = 200 strokes, so net speed is (1,750 − 200) ÷ 5 ÷ 10 = 31 WPM. The threshold is 35 WPM, so this attempt falls short.
